Viking Isle of Lewis Chess Set $299.95US Cast directly from the 900-year-old pieces in the British Museum. The pieces are 3.5” tall and the pawns are 1.5” in height. When displayed in your home they will add a stately feel. Made in Europe from a crushed-stone and polyester-resin compound, our chess pieces look and feel like the ancient set. You may have seen a version of this chess set in the blockbuster film about an English boy and his magical powers (Harry Potter). We can't guarantee that these will have a life of their own as they did for Harry and Ron, but you never know. Reproductions of the 12th-century originals found by a farmer in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis, in the Hebrides, northwest of Scotland. Experts regard the originals, skillfully carved between the years 1100 and 1130 AD, as "the most exquisite collection of ancient chessmen in existence." The Viking Game "Hnefatafl" The Viking Game "Hnefatafl" in boxThe Viking Adventure Game "Hnefatafl" $54.95US  It is pronounced "Nef - ah - tah - fel" in old Norse, which means the king's table.  Board 11.5" x 11.5", King 1.75", Pawns 1.25".  The Viking game "Hnefatafl" was a popular board game during the Dark Ages in Northern Europe and was played all over the Viking world. Based on archaeological research the game has been reconstructed and can now be played as it was by the Vikings over 1,600 years ago. Hnefatafl was last recorded as being played in Wales in 1587 and in Lapland in 1723. The rules are simple, yet require tactical skill to take the enemy by surprise and win the game. The legacy of the Viking use of tactical surprise is told of again and again in the Viking sagas. Chess enthusiasts will appreciate a new, or should I say old way of thinking.

Noble Celts Circular Chess SetNoble Celts Circular Chess Set $59.95US Dream Green is proud to bring you Noble Celts Chess by award-winning game inventor and artist, Don Green. Noble Celts is a richly decorated Celton-Saxon styled circular chess game. Chess was played on a circular designed board centuries ago but this version mostly disappeared during the Dark Ages. This could be as a result of the many occasions that chess has been forbidden . Only in recent years has this form of chess been rediscovered and this design combines beautiful artistry with dynamic play. Although the chess pieces still move as in European Chess and those chess rules apply, the lack of side edges on the Noble Board makes this variant a vibrant way of playing an ancient game.  The board is faux leather measuring approximately 26 x 26 inches. The abstract animal and interlocking braided cord designs of Northern Britain and Ireland harmonize beautifully and are complemented with exquisite chess pieces from an original set hand carved by Don Green. Some references to the development and history of chess and the pieces are included. Many more can be found on this site and the internet. The chess pieces are cast resin.

R0077.jpg (45462 bytes)Tree of Life Board Set $110.00US A time-honored method of communicating with the spirits of the dead and a powerful tool of divination, the talking board has been reinvented within this set with the potent imagery of the Tree of Life. The board is a solid piece, sculpted from cold cast resin so as to rise 1 1/2" from where you set it, with embossed letters, yes or no answers, and more, all arranged to help the other worlds clearly answer the questions you pose. All of this surrounds a the Celtic Tree of Life, whose tall branches and deep roots are viewed as a symbol and bridge of the connection between heaven and earth. Extending from its branches, tangled vines run out to form an elaborate border of interwoven Celtic knots. Set within this design, four pillars rise up 3/4" to support a circular glass plate upon which your pointer can slide; with the pointer itself taking the form of an elaborately drawn pentagram, overlapping the tree of life. Rich in spiritual symbolism and tradition, this piece is a must have for occultists, collectors, and anyone who would use its powers for divination and magick. The whole thing measures approximately 13 1/4" in diameter.
